At some point can we address the issue of Muscle Mass and how it is actually determined/measured? It is always referred to in these exercise discussions, yet not sure how to determine baseline or increase or loss.

I remembered that a past HF speaker (Dr. from Ohio???) on sarcopenia said it could be determined on a
Bone Density Scan, if it is requested, so I have hopefully added it to my scan scheduled for 4/25. It was very difficult to get added to the bone density order, as my PCP did not know about it? Always talked about, but how do we measure and monitor it?

    Thanks!!

I had a dexa scan about 6 months ago and they said they did not know what I was talking about. It was Dr. Nate Berger. Someone in the zooms recently shared he had passed away.
UPMC team – do you have any knowledge? I know he worked with Dr.Schmitz. Here is the recording where he told us about it.https://youtu.be/5kVdsEIScIM?si=NPwG5wdKI2iBdNeO

I agree it would be great to see if we are making any improvements.

Hi, when I went through trial at AHN exercise oncology they measured muscle mass, it was done by DXA scale which can measure muscle and fat. I know calipers and measuring circumference around biceps and thigh can too.
